AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 7995WX Sets Cinebench Records at Stock and Overclocked

AMD recently held an event to showcase the performance of their new Threadripper 7000 series processors. The flagship 96-core Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7995WX put up impressive benchmark numbers, even breaking a Cinebench world record when overclocked.

The Threadripper 7000 series launch has been highly anticipated, with rumors dating back before the Zen 4 architecture was introduced on desktop PCs. AMD took their time bringing Threadripper to the new Zen 4 cores, opting to establish the architecture first on mainstream desktop chips. However, with Intel’s release of Sapphire Rapids-WS workstation processors, AMD was compelled to respond.

The response comes in the form of Threadripper 7000, available in PRO and non-PRO versions. The lineup includes options with 96, 64, 32, 16, and 12 cores, with the 96-core PRO model exclusive at the top end. The platform also brings support for PCIe Gen 5 and DDR5 memory.

Reviews of the 7995WX confirm AMD’s claims of significant generational performance gains. In Cinebench R23 testing by PCMag, the new 96-core chip scored 80% higher than Intel’s Xeon W9-3495X and 58% above last-gen Threadripper. This demonstrates AMD’s return to dominance in the high end desktop (HEDT) market.

Meanwhile, overclockers got their hands on the 7995WX at an AMD hosted event prior to launch. Although limited in what details they could share, photos emerged of a liquid nitrogen cooled overclocking session. VideoCardz has obtained a screenshot showing the 7995WX pushed to 4.4GHz across all 96 cores, drawing over 620 watts of power.

This overclock resulted in an impressive Cinebench R23 score of 148,719 points. That figure beats the existing world record of 147,668 points set by a dual EPYC server CPU setup. The overclocked 7995WX also exceeded the Cinebench 2024 record by 31%.

Unfortunately, the PRO series 7995WX carries a price tag of $9,999, putting it out of reach for most enthusiasts. And overclocking would void the warranty regardless. But AMD has reclaimed the HEDT crown with Zen 4 Threadripper’s powerful performance.
