Intel’s Next Raptor Lake-S Refresh Desktop Processor will be Use Old Naming: i9-14900K, i7-14700K, i5-14600K

Intel recently revealed their new branding for the Intel Core series of products. However, the announcement left out information on the future of the desktop series.

During the Intel presentation and in various reports on the Core brand update, the initial focus will be on applying the new branding to the Meteor Lake series. The presentation did explicitly mention the highly anticipated Raptor Lake Refresh for desktop models.

Leaked roadmaps show that Intel intends to release a faster version of its Raptor Lake chips for both desktop and mobile segments. These updated Raptor series chips aim to deliver higher clock speeds and support quicker memory for desktop Core-S and mobile enthusiast Core-HX models.

The forthcoming desktop series is expected to be part of the 14th Gen Core series, as confirmed by industry insiders. Chinese media outlet “Golden Pig Upgrade” has consistently been among the first to share Intel’s plans for upcoming products. They released a video explaining the fate of the Raptor Lake-S/HX series, which should fall under the 14th Gen Core category. Meanwhile, Meteor Lake and Raptor Lake-U/P models are set to adopt the new branding.

The video indicates that the Raptor Lake silicon will feature both new and old naming conventions. However, the new Core 3/5/7 branding will only apply to low-power mobile U-series chips. Furthermore, Core Ultra branding will be exclusive to Meteor Lake chips, while the Raptor Lake Refresh will not have this brand name. This approach mirrors AMD’s Ryzen 7000 series, wherein the company attempted to blend various architectures under a single product line.
